Are your employees about to leave?
A survey of 3,000 UK workers by Peakon has found that 23% are looking for a new job this January. "Employers are at highest risk of losing key employees in January and February," said Dan Rogers, co-founder of Peakon. "After an extended break, coming back to work to a disengaging or unsatisfying role prompts many employees to reconsider their future at a company." The findings show that 24% are considering a career change while 23% feel they are underpaid and are looking for more money.
SMEs on board with auto-enrolment
New YouGov research for The People's Pension has found that there's strong support for auto-enrolment (AE) among SMEs. The majority of SMEs (60%) thought it was fair that AE applied to all employers, regardless of size. This view was more commonly held by SMEs that had already staged (66%), compared to those that were still to stage (49%). In addition, 37% of SMEs that have staged said they are already paying more than the 1% minimum contribution to all employees in their workplace pension scheme.
Calling all young entrepreneurs
The New Entrepreneurs Foundation has opened applications for its Class of 2018 entrepreneur training programme. It is looking for 50 of the UK's best young, business-minded individuals to join its 12-month entrepreneur development programme. In the past five years, the Foundation has helped more than 200 young people launch 100 ventures (63 currently live). Neeta Patel, CEO of the New Entrepreneurs Foundation, said: "We want to find those young, aspiring entrepreneurs who dream of running a successful business but need help getting started." Applications close at the end of March.
Money woes damaging morale
A quarter of people are suffering with money problems so substantial that it is affecting their ability to do their job, according to a survey of more than 1,800 UK employees by the CIPD and Close Brothers Asset Management. The number reporting problems (including anxiety and fatigue from sleepless nights) rises to a nearly a third (31%) among 18-24 year olds, and those living in London (32%). The problem is not limited to low earners, with one in five (20%) of employees earning £45,000 to £59,999 saying that financial anxiety has affected their ability to do their job.
